The Origin

Skratch Labs was founded in 2012 in Boulder, Colorado by Dr Allen Lim, a sports physiologist who'd worked with several WorldTour cycling teams as team doctor. The story Lim has told publicly is that he noticed his cyclists were quietly making their own drinks when nobody was looking - they didn't like the taste or ingredient lists of the official sponsor products.

The Clean-Ingredient Pitch

The product line that followed was deliberate about short ingredient lists: cane sugar as the carbohydrate source, real fruit for flavour, mineral salts for the electrolytes, no artificial colours or sweeteners. Sport Hydration Mix is built around the sodium-glucose co-transport principle that oral rehydration solutions use.

Why It Resonated

A meaningful chunk of the cycling and triathlon community was already moving toward 'real food' fuelling for long days on the bike. Skratch slotted into that current with a coherent product line that had the credentials behind it - a sports doctor's brand with WorldTour-era pedigree.

Range

Sport Hydration Mix is the flagship. Anytime Hydration Mix is a lower-sodium daily variant. Sport Energy Chews, Sport Recovery Mix (with protein), and Sport Bars round out the line. Sport Hydration sits at around 380 mg sodium per serve - moderate, not the top of the category.

In Australia

Available through endurance specialty retailers and online. Pricing sits at the premium end of the category, reflective of the ingredient sourcing and brand positioning.
